I remember when the Tour de France came to Portsmouth in the 1990′s. Our school closed for the afternoon. I watched the cyclists pass at the top of Portsdown Hill. |

I think mine would be when the Queen came to Portsmouth in the 1970s. I remember watching out of my Nan’s window in Gladys Avenue, North End and seeing the Royal car go past |

Standing in Charlotte Street watching the full Solar Eclipse 11th August 1999 It was really eerie everywhere suddenly went totally quiet even the birds stopped singing. |

I have to agree with the the History Lady. A truly magnificent event. I have to say , however , that it is closely followed ( for me ) by the residents of Portsmouth turning out in their thousands to welcome the F.A. Cup back to Portsmouth in 2008. I shall never forget either event. |

As a bonfire enthusiast. I’ve created some rather impressive pyres over the years but I’d never seen anything quite like the inferno that was the ‘Ghost Ship’ |
